The most common cause of missing push notifications: permission is not enabled on the device or in the app. Check both - first in your device settings (Settings → Notifications → StalliQ → allow), then in StalliQ itself (More → Settings → Notifications → "Push notifications" toggle enabled). If you've configured quiet hours, notifications are silenced during that period.
How do I enable push notifications?
Push notifications must be enabled in two places:
1. On the device:
- iOS: Settings → Notifications → StalliQ → enable "Allow Notifications". Make sure Lock Screen, Notification Center and Banners are all enabled
- Android: Settings → Apps → StalliQ → Notifications → allow all notifications
2. In StalliQ:
- Open the More tab and tap "Settings"
- Tap "Notifications"
- Enable the master toggle "Push notifications"
- Below it you can optionally control the individual categories (Messages, Appointments, Stable management)
The change is saved instantly - there is no "Save" button. If you skipped push during onboarding ("Later"), you can enable it here at any time.
Which notifications does StalliQ send?
| Notification | Trigger |
|---|---|
| Booking confirmation | You book a riding lesson |
| Waitlist promotion | You move up from the waitlist |
| Lesson cancellation | The riding instructor cancels a lesson |
| Substitution | Another riding instructor takes over |
| Late cancellation | A student cancels after the deadline (for riding instructors) |
| New message | Someone sends you a direct message |
| Appointment reminder | Your configured lead time before an appointment |
| Event assignment | The organizer publishes your slot assignment |
| Weather alert | Frost, storm or thunderstorm at the stable |
| Join request | A new member wants to join your stable (for admins) |
| Announcement | The stable operator posts on the board |
Why am I not getting push even with settings enabled?
Quiet hours active: You can configure quiet hours in two places: under More → Settings → Notifications ("Quiet hours" section, with auto-save) or under More → Edit Profile (fields "Quiet hours from/until"). During the configured time (e.g. 22:00-07:00) push notifications are silenced. Messages aren't lost - you'll see them in the app as soon as you open it. Fix: adjust or disable quiet hours.
Conversation muted: Individual chat conversations can be muted. Go to Messages, press and hold the conversation in question and check whether "Unmute" is shown. This only affects message push, not booking or appointment notifications.
Reminder lead times not configured: Appointment reminders are only sent if you've set at least one reminder lead time under More → Edit Profile ("Notifications" section, "Reminders (days before)" chips) - e.g. 1 day before, 3 days before. Without this setting you won't receive any appointment reminders.
"Appointments" category turned off: Under More → Settings → Notifications the "Appointments" category can be disabled individually. If it's off, all appointment push (including reminders) is suppressed - even when the master toggle is on.
Device was offline: Push notifications are delivered via Apple (APNs) or Google (FCM). If your device was offline at the time of sending, delivery may be delayed or fail.
How do I fix push problems step by step?
- Check device settings: Are notifications allowed for StalliQ? (see above)
- Check StalliQ settings: Is push enabled? Quiet hours correct? Reminder days set?
- Re-register push: Go to More → Settings → Notifications, turn the "Push notifications" master toggle off and back on (saved automatically). This registers a new device token
- Restart the app: Close StalliQ completely and open it again
- Restart the device: Sometimes restarting your phone helps
- Update the app: Make sure you have the latest version from the App Store / Google Play
Frequently asked questions
Do I get push notifications in StalliQ even when the screen is locked?
Yes, as long as you've enabled "Lock Screen" (iOS) or the equivalent option on Android in your device settings. StalliQ sends standard push notifications that are handled by the operating system like any other app.
Why do I get push for messages in StalliQ but not for appointments?
Message push and appointment reminders are independent of each other. Appointment reminders require you to have set a reminder lead time under More → Edit Profile ("Notifications" section) - e.g. "1 day before". Without this setting, no appointment push is sent. Also check under More → Settings → Notifications whether the "Appointments" category is enabled - if it's off, appointment push is suppressed. Message push, on the other hand, is triggered immediately when a message is received.
Do notifications in StalliQ get lost if I don't see them?
No. Push notifications are just a heads-up - the actual data (bookings, messages, appointments) is always visible in the app, even if you missed the push. Just open the relevant area (Messages, Calendar, Stable tab) to see everything.
Can I turn off individual notification types in StalliQ?
Yes, within limits. Under More → Settings → Notifications you can disable three categories individually alongside the master toggle: Messages, Appointments and Stable management. In addition, you can mute individual chat conversations and control appointment reminders via the lead time. Individual event types within a category (e.g. only booking confirmations) cannot currently be disabled separately.
