Here's how you send messages in StalliQ: On the dashboard, tap the chat icon in the top right (it shows unread messages as a badge). You'll see your conversations as a list. Tap a conversation to open the chat, or start a new conversation — for example via your stable's member list, the event participant list, or the profile of a shared horse.
How do I start a new conversation?
You can initiate messages from various places in the app:
- Stable member: Go to the members area of your stable, tap a member and choose "Send message"
- Event organizer: On the event detail page you'll find a button to contact the organizer
- Event participant: As the organizer, you can message participants via the participant list
- Shared horse: Users who share a horse with you appear as contactable
StalliQ automatically creates a conversation between you and the other person. If a conversation already exists, the existing one is opened.
What are system messages?
System messages are sent automatically by StalliQ, for example for:
- Late cancellation - Your riding instructor receives a system message when you cancel after the cancellation deadline has passed
- Booking cancellation by a manager - You receive a system message when a manager cancels your booking
- Stable operator actions - Certain administrative actions trigger system messages
System messages look like normal chat messages but are marked as "System".
How do notifications for messages work?
New messages trigger a push notification (if enabled). Unread messages are shown as a badge count on the chat icon in the dashboard.
You can mute individual conversations: press and hold a conversation in the list and tap "Mute". Muted conversations no longer send push notifications - but the messages still appear in the list.
Quiet hours (configurable under More → Profile → Notifications) also apply to message push notifications.
How do I block a user?
Press and hold a conversation in the list and choose "Block" - or open the chat and use the menu in the top right. After a block, the other user can no longer send you messages and sees none of your activity in stable or event contexts.
Block protection for stable members: In some constellations StalliQ prevents the block - for example, when the other person is a manager or riding instructor in a stable where you are a member. The reason: blocking would interrupt organizationally important communication (booking cancellations, announcements). You'll then see the notice "Block not possible" with the stable name and the recommendation to mute the conversation or leave the stable instead.
Frequently asked questions
Can I send group messages in StalliQ?
No. StalliQ currently only supports direct messages between two people. To notify multiple stable members, use the announcements feature (a stable operator feature).
Are messages encrypted in StalliQ?
Messages are transmitted encrypted (TLS) and stored on European servers. Access is limited to the two conversation participants. StalliQ does not read or analyze message content.
What happens to my messages if I delete StalliQ?
When your account is deleted, all your messages and conversations are permanently deleted. When you leave a stable, existing conversations with stable members are retained - you can still read and reply to them.
Can I send images or files via message in StalliQ?
StalliQ currently only supports text messages. To share photos, use your horse's gallery and share the horse with the desired person.
