How to document symptoms in StalliQ: Open the horse profile, go to the "Health" tab and tap the "Symptoms" tile. Tap "Record symptom", choose a category (e.g. lameness), enter the severity level (1–5) and a description. After that, you can use the observation log to document how the symptom develops each day — with severity level, notes and photos. A sparkline chart shows the progression at a glance.
Which symptom categories are there?
StalliQ offers 9 symptom categories:
- Lameness - Irregular gait, protective posture
- Cough / respiratory - Coughing, nasal discharge, labored breathing
- Colic signs - Restlessness, flehmen, rolling, refusal to eat
- Skin / coat - Eczema, itching, hair loss, swelling
- Loss of appetite - Reduced food intake
- Behavioral change - Apathy, aggression, restlessness
- Eyes - Watering, swelling, clouding
- Wound / injury - Open wounds, bruises
- Other - All other symptoms
How do I record a new symptom?
In the Symptoms area, tap "Record symptom". The form contains:
- Category - Choose one of the 9 categories as a pill button
- Severity level - Scale from 1 to 5:
- 1 (green) = Barely noticeable
- 2 (light green) = Mild
- 3 (yellow) = Clear
- 4 (red) = Strong
- 5 (dark red) = Very strong
- Short description - e.g. "Lame on the right front after turnout" (max. 200 characters)
- Time - When did you observe the symptom?
- Notes - More detailed observations (max. 5000 characters)
Tap "Save". The symptom is saved as "Active" and appears in the health timeline.
How does the observation log work?
The observation log is at the heart of symptom documentation. With it, you record how a symptom develops over time — for example, whether a lameness is improving or getting worse.
Open an active symptom and tap "Add observation". Each observation contains:
- Observation - What did you observe? (free text)
- Current severity level - How strong is the symptom right now? (1–5)
- Time - Date and time of the observation
- Photo - Optionally add a photo (e.g. of a swelling or wound)
The log shows all observations chronologically with a sparkline chart for the severity level. That way you can tell at a glance whether the symptom is improving or worsening.
In addition, StalliQ shows a statistics box with: number of observations, average severity level and date of the most recent observation.
How do I mark a symptom as resolved?
When a symptom has subsided, open it and tap "Mark as resolved". The symptom gets the status "Resolved" with the date it was resolved. Resolved symptoms remain visible in the history, but the "active" badge disappears.
If the symptom comes back, you can reactivate it via "Mark as active" and add further observations.
How do photos help with symptom documentation?
Photos are especially valuable for skin symptoms, wounds and swellings. When adding an observation, you tap "Add photo" and take a picture of the affected area. Across the observations, this creates a visual record of the healing process — ideal for showing the progression to your vet.
Frequently asked questions
When should I document a symptom in StalliQ instead of a health record entry?
Use symptoms for observations where you want to track the progression over time — for example, a lameness that is sometimes better and sometimes worse. Use the health record for completed treatments and appointments — for example, "Vet treated the back". The two complement each other: document the symptom "Lameness right front" and, in parallel, the vet visit in the health record.
Can I show the observation log to my vet in StalliQ?
Yes. Open the symptom with the observation log and show it to your vet directly on the screen — the sparkline chart and the individual observations with photos give a quick overview. Alternatively, share your horse with your vet (role "Vet"), and they can view the symptoms themselves in StalliQ.
How many symptoms can I document at the same time in StalliQ?
There is no limit. You can document several active symptoms in parallel and add observations to each one individually. The Health tab shows the number of active symptoms as a badge.
Does symptom documentation in StalliQ replace a visit to the vet?
No. StalliQ helps you document symptoms in a structured way and track their progression. For acute or severe symptoms (colic signs, severe lameness, injuries), you should always contact a vet immediately. However, the documentation in StalliQ can help your vet follow the progression.
